The Walking Dead Take Over New Jersey For Annual Zombie Walk

Zombie Walk

New Jersey proved this weekend that it is stronger than the storm, fire and zombie invasion. Nearly ten thousand zombie walkers gathered in Asbury Park, New Jersey to take a bite out of history and reclaim the Guinness World Record for largest zombie walk. Walk founder, Jason Meehan, combined forces with the Stronger Than The Storm campaign to ensure this year's New Jersey Zombie Walk was a total community event.

"I wanted to make this year's event about more than the zombies. I wanted to bring people back into the community to support the local businesses that have supported this walk in previous years," stated Meehan. "Zombies are resilient, just like New Jersey. We faced a lot this year and we need to bring the world record home."

Guinness World Records was on location monitoring this sixth annual event to make sure zombies were in proper makeup before going through turnstiles from the boardwalk on to the beach. With 9,592 zombies, New Jersey reclaimed the record from Minnesota, beating them by over one thousand zombies.

"The world record attempt isn't just about taking back what we already had, it is about rebuilding our boardwalk," said Meehan. "Zombies this year are walking with a real purpose."
