Terry Crews Willing To Cover Himself In Rocks Or Steel For A Marvel Role

Terry Crews

Just a little over a week after preemptively taking himself out of the running for Luke Cage in a future Marvel movie, "Expendables" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Terry Crews has now preemptively put himself into the running for two other Marvel characters: Thing and Colossus. Apparently Crews is a big fan of heroes that require extensive makeup and/or CGI.

While speaking to Newsarama about his debut as the voice of Blade on tomorrow's "Ultimate Spider-Man Halloween Special," the subject of big screen superheros came up.

"One character I always thought I could play is the Thing from Fantastic Four," revealed Crews. "Another character I've always loved as a fan is Colossus. If there was a way to make that happen that worked, I would love to be Colossus."

While Colossus is currently tied up in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," where he's played by Daniel Cudmore, ol' Ben Grimm is still available. Are you listening, "FF" reboot director Josh Trank? The Thing is the only member of the Fantastic Four that hasn't had an actor attached to them, as Michael B. Jordan, Allison Williams, and possibly Miles Teller have all been in talks for the Four.

Crews also expanded on his previous thoughts on Luke Cage's exclusion from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Some people bring up Luke Cage, but honestly I have to step out of that because Marvel's never really expressed an interest in making it," said Crews. "If Marvel hasn't expressed interest in it, why should I? I'm interested in actually doing a character that'll see the light of day; that's one of the reasons I chose to do Blade here [in 'Ultimate Spider-Man']. I don't want to be a part of something that's going to sit on the shelf and never get made."

Just to satisfy my own curiosity as a big Luke Cage fan, I checked to see if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has ever expressed an interest in a Luke Cage movie and there have been a few mentions, but nowhere near as many as Black Panther and Dr. Strange have received. Feige said way back in 2010 that he has not been shy about his love for Luke Cage, and just this year the hero's name has come up during talks with both Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. But other than that, Cage doesn't get nearly enough attention.
