'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': Falcon Is Not Captain America's 'Robin'

by Brett White

While Falcon might be fighting alongside Captain America in "Captain America: The Winter Solider," actor Anthony Mackie wants to make one thing clear: Falcon is not Captain America's Robin! Their avian codenames are where the two heroes' similarities end, everybody. In this exclusive interview with MTV News' Josh Horowitz, Mackie offered up his thoughts on the relationship between the star-spangled Avenger, the Falcon, and returning Avenger Black Widow.

"It's interesting because a lot of people equate it to Batman and Robin, but the reality of it is it's more of a working relationship, a respect relationship as opposed to a leader and follower," said Mackie. He added that despite how close Scarlett Johansson has said her character gets to Cap, there's no room for ego in their team-up. "The three of us work really well together."

Mackie expanded on his "Captain America" experience some more, saying that he was initially led to believe that he'd be the second lead—a role that seems to have gone to Black Widow.

"They sold me that I was the second lead in the movie, so there's a point where Cap gets hurt, and [I] do everything for Cap," Mackie told MTV News. "And I get the script, and... that's not true. I get hurt, not Cap!"

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" opens on April 4th, 2014.
