Djimon Hounsou Still Wants To Double Dip Into The Marvel Universe As Black Panther

by Brett White

He may be suiting up as Korath the Pursuer in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but Djimon Hounsou has his fingers crossed that he'll be called on to play more than just a Kree warrior for Marvel Studios.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, the Academy Award nominee made his intentions very clear: he wants to play Black Panther.

"It would be an honour to be T'Challa," said Hounsou. "It would have to be done right, given the history of that character and that comic."

It would also have to be done right considering the amount of anticipation surrounding that character. Just journey back through the Black Panther tag and you'll see post after post of other actors making the exact same claim. Morris Chestnut, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Anthony Mackie, and Derek Luke all have. Heck, even Djimon Hounsou's said this a few times before. Newsflash: he's still interested.

It's interesting to note that all of those actors, excluding Chestnut, have gone on to land roles in Marvel movies. Hounsou's in "Guardians," Akinnuoye-Agbaje's in "Thor: The Dark World" as Kurse, Mackie is Falcon in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," and Luke played Gabe Jones in "Captain America: The First Avenger." But already being part of the Marvel Universe hasn't stopped Hounsou from campaigning for the part.

"I have a foot in the Marvel comics world now," said Hounsou. "So we'll see where they're going to take that."

I mean, that sounds like a dare, Marvel. Make it happen! If two different actors can play the Hulk and War Machine, then one actor should be allowed to play two different roles, especially when those roles are separated by a galaxy—and possibly blue body paint.
