Gina Torres Calls Wonder Woman Campaign 'Heartwarming'

Wonder Woman has been making a lot of news lately in the comic book movie world, only because a feature film starring one of the most popular and well-known superheroes still hasn't been greenlit. Yep, the Flash gets both a film and TV series developed simultaneously while Wonder Woman's TV show gets postponed—again. DC and Warner Bros. keep going back to Superman and Batman, two heroes who will be teaming up while the third member of DC's Trinity remains shut out.

None of that means that the Amazonian isn't at the forefront of fans' minds, and they want Gina Torres to bring her to life. The actor, known for her roles on "Suits" and playing Zoe on "Firefly," has long been the top contender to bring Wonder Woman to life, a fact that still surprises her, as she revealed to Vulture.

"You know, she is a superhero that has been a part of my life since I can remember, and it is incredibly gratifying and heartwarming and wonderful that this campaign continues to have a life — even though it might be maybe three or four people that are keeping it alive. I love them!"

Considering how important a character Wonder Woman is, Torres confirms that if Warner Bros. came calling, she would indeed answer.

"I don't know how realistic it is," said Torres. "Of course I would love to do that. Who wouldn't in their right mind? And why not? Well, there are all kinds of reasons why not. But yes, it is a fantasy. And it's a hoot. It's a hoot that every now and then, all these years go by, and people are still thinking that I could do that; I could make that wonderful and they will come and see it. I can't even tell you how that feels."

Torres has taken on comic book roles in the past, but so far only in the voice-acting arena. She voiced Vixen on "Justice League Unlimited," Superwoman in "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths," and she even voiced Wonder Woman as part of the DC Universe Online video game. But fans want to see Torres as a living, breathing Wonder Woman—and we'd have to agree.

For one thing, Torres has the imposing physicality needed to play Wonder Woman and can straight up command a scene. Put her next to Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck as Superman and Batman and she will definitely be the most imposing of the three of them. Just watch "Firefly" if you have any doubt about that.

Now, if only Warner Bros. would realize it...
