Ben Affleck isn’t even really Batman yet, and he’s already “tired” and “weary.”
Those are the adjectives that the folks behind Zack Snyder’s untitled “Man of Steel” sequel are using to describe Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader. During a Beverly Hills conference on Thursday, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara spoke about the studio’s upcoming projects, from the newly-announced “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them” to Snyder’s planned “Superman vs. Batman” team-up.
According to Tsujihara, fans can count on Affleck to be “tired, and kind of weary and seasoned” when he steps into the role of Bruce Wayne. The executive called Affleck “perfect” for the part.
“Ben is perfect for the vision Zack has for that character,” he said. “The fact that you saw such a passionate response in the blogosphere is really kind of a testament to the love that people have for this character.”
“Passionate” is a nice way of putting it, reflecting back on the knee-jerk mass-vitriol spewed out over Affleck’s casting when it was first announced. Cooler heads have mostly prevailed and the pitchforks seem to have gone away for now, but initial fan response suggests an uphill battle for the erstwhile Matt Murdock as he becomes Gotham City’s newest defender.
