It's a testament to how eager Marvel fans are to have Captain Marvel in a movie—and how eager they are to have "Riddick" actor Katee Sackhoff play her—that the slightest mention will send the internet into a speculation frenzy. Granted, yes, we definitely played into that frenzy over here at Splash Page—but only because we too want this movie to happen. Sackhoff clarified the misinterpreted comments to Crave Online as part of their Toronto International Film Festival coverage.
"I absolutely have not spoken to Marvel," said Sackhoff, who was on hand to support her latest movie "Oculus" (which co-stars "Guardians of the Galaxy's" Karen Gillan). "It doesn't mean that my team hasn't spoken to Marvel. I personally have not spoken to Marvel and have no plans to do a movie in the immediate future, because number one I'm tied up with [upcoming horror film] 'Somnia' which is a fantastic place to be. It's exactly where I wanted to be."
But Carol Danvers fans shouldn't lose all hope yet. Yes, Sackhoff did shoot down the rumor that she's in talks to play Captain Marvel, but in shooting down the rumor, she has offered up an incredibly definitive statement regarding the character.
"I would love to do the role," said Sackhoff. "Of course I would love to do the role. I think that it’s in my wheelhouse and I would enjoy it. I'd be stupid to turn down a Marvel movie but as far as I know, Ms. Marvel isn't even in the next movie."
So come on, that's a pretty great quote that can't be taken out of context—at least I don't think it can. The headline has changed from "Katee Sackhoff Hints At Possible Captain Marvel Negotiations" to "Katee Sackhoff Knows Who Captain Marvel Is And Would Love To Play Her."
Gotta admit, that's still a headline to get excited about. Marvel, the ball's in your court. If you haven't talked to Sackhoff's team before now, pick up that phone.
