Well, that didn't take long.
Just a week after Amanda Waller's presence in "Arrow's" second season was first rumored, Super Hero Hype is reporting that Cynthia Addai-Robinson has won the role of ARGUS member and Suicide Squad handler Amanda Waller. The announcement also confirms two members of the Suicide Squad— the returning Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White).
Addai-Robinson is best known for playing Naevia on the Starz historical drama "Spartacus." I've personally never seen an episode of "Spartacus," but just doing an image search for Addai-Robinson turned up some incredibly intense and bloody action photos. Judging by those pics alone, I think Addai-Robinson will bring a welcome emotional range to her portrayal of Waller.
With this casting, Amanda Waller has stealthily become one of the most prominent members of the DC Universe. In addition to appearing on "Arrow" next season, she previously appeared in the "Green Lantern" feature film played by Angela Bassett, and on "Smallville" played by Pam Grier. C.C.H. Pounder voiced the character in the animated series "Justice League" and the animated movie "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies," raising the character's profile even more. For a human character that sometimes finds herself at odds with the super-powered set, she's certainly proven to have staying power since her debut back in 1986. Waller's here to stay, and here's hoping her appearance on "Arrow" will only add to her status as a vital and important part of the DC Universe.
But Addai-Robinson is following in Bassett, Grier, and Pounder's footsteps, three highly respected actresses of phenomenal talent. That has to be intimidating for Addai-Robinson! Is she up for the challenge?
Yep, yep, she's definitely up for it!
