'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Is A Practical Matter For Glenn Close

Glenn Close

Glenn Close is playing the head of an intergalactic police force in "Guardians of the Galaxy." But based on her recent comments about the movie, you would think she's playing a mercenary.

Close attended the 18th Nantucket Film Festival earlier in the summer, and spoke briefly about her "Guardians" commitment during the appearance. According to her comments, Close is in "Guardians" for one reason and one reason only — a reason as green as Drax the Destroyer's flesh.

"I'm doing that because it will then afford me to go do the other kind of movies that I really love," she said. "And hopefully I will have a great time. It'll be a new experience for me, but practically speaking it will mean that I can do those smaller movies and it'll be okay."

It's a pretty straightforward answer: Close is in this for the money. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If having a quick role in "Guardians of the Galaxy" as Nova Prime means she can go off and make a smaller picture that's closer to her heart, more power to her — as long as she's committed to bringing the Marvel project to life, of course.

Close stars in "Guardians" alongside Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro and John C. Reilly. It's directed by James Gunn and is slated for release on August 1, 2014.
