'The Flash': Casting Call!

by Ryan Rigley

This year's San Diego Comic Con was huge for DC fans. In addition to the crazy reveal of Zack Snyder making a "Superman vs. Batman" movie, DC also announced their plans to produce a film based on the Scarlet Speedster, better known as the Flash. This, of course, would push the "Justice League" release date back even further, with the DC team-up movie now scheduled to hit theaters sometime between late 2016 and early 2017.

Clearly, introducing DC superheroes in their own separate films before "Justice League" is a good idea. If it worked so well for Marvel Studios and "The Avengers," how could it not work for Warner Bros. and DC? There are still a number of questions to be answered regarding "The Flash," with the most pressing question being who will be playing the fastest man alive? We have five picks for you, just after the jump!

Charlie Hunnam

Born in Newcastle, England, Charlie Hunnam is the breakout star of the TV series "Sons of Anarchy" and, most recently, Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim." His experience working on big-budget summer blockbusters, including del Toro's next film "Crimson Peak," gives us reason to believe that Hunnam would excel in a superhero movie. In fact, there are already rumors that the actor is being considered for the role. He's got the looks, he's got the wit, he's got the hair color. Let's make it happen, Hollywood.

Bradley Cooper

Starring in diverse hit films like "Silver Linings Playbook" and the "Hangover" trilogy has proved that Bradley Cooper is certainly a man of many talents. In "Silver Linings Playbook," he proved to the world that his acting prowess is Oscar-worthy. In "The Hangover," he proved to the world that he's got great comedic timing. Lucky for Cooper, "The Flash" would require a combination of both of these rare skills. He also kind of technically played a superhero - at least someone with super powers - in "Limitless."

Chris Pine

Best known for his recent work in J. J. Abrams' "Star Trek" series, Chris Pine is without a doubt the perfect candidate for "The Flash." As made apparent by his portrayal of a young Captain Kirk, Pine can effortlessly inhabit the hero mentality that is shared by the Scarlet Speedster that fans all know and love - not to mention the fact that he can quip a good one-liner like nobody's business.

Scott Porter

Known for his work on the critically-acclaimed "Friday Night Lights," Scott Porter has already expressed great interest in playing the Flash in a big screen adaptation. Although his resume mostly consists of bit parts in films such as "Dear John" and "Music And Lyrics," the Texas-born actor does, in fact, have some superhero experience. Recently, Porter lent his voice to that of Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, on the "X-Men" Marvel Anime series.

Michael Rosenbaum

Arguably the most qualified actor on our list, Michael Rosenbaum has already been playing the Flash for a number of years now by providing his vocal talents for several animated incarnations of the hero. Before that, he played a young Lex Luthor on the hit DC series "Smallville." Obviously, Rosenbaum knows his way around Central City's beloved superhero. Here's hoping that Warner Bros. recognizes this and gets him suited up for the Flash's feature film debut!
