‘Superman Vs. Batman': 5 Villains For The World’s Finest Heroes

by Ryan Rigley

One of the most surprising bits of news to come out of this year’s Comic Con, other than “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” was Zack Snyder’s announcement that he will be directing a co-writing a “Superman vs. Batman” film with Henry Cavill reprising his role as the Man of Steel.

Scheduled for a 2015 release, “Superman vs. Batman” would be in theaters a whole year before the “Justice League” film, which has now been pushed back to 2016. While this is all very exciting, we here at Splash Page can’t help but wonder which villain the dynamic duo will be pitted against in the aforementioned team-up film. Sure, the title seems to indicate that the two heroes will square off against each other, but there’s no way they won’t team up against a common foe. Here’s a list of five villains too powerful for just one superhero.

A plant worker at a research facility, Raymond Maxwell Jensen was turned into a purple power-sucking monster after accidentally opening a container filled with hazardous biochemicals from outer space. Now known as the Parasite, Raymond has the ability to absorb the life energy, powers, and memories from any living being his touches making him a deadly adversary for even the likes of Superman.

Mr. Mxyzptlk
Hailing from the fifth dimension, Mr. Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp who lives to make Superman’s life a living hell. Although Mxyzptlk originally planned on conquering our world for himself, he has since settled on just tormenting the Man of Steel for his own personal gain. Unaffected by our dimension’s laws of physics, Mxyzptlk basically has the powers of a god, and is able to bend reality however he sees fit. The only way to get rid of him is to trick him into saying his name backwards.

An android with the ability replicate any and all special abilities he comes into contact with, Amazo was built by a mad scientist named Professor Ivo who was obsessed with discovering the key to immortality. In addition to any other abilities that he comes across, Amazo has the collected power of all the original Justice League members: Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter.

The former ruler of an alien race, Mongul has since been exiled to vastness of outer space. Physically, Mongul is actually more powerful than Superman and also virtually indestructible. Superman has actually beat Mongul in hand-to-hand combat once before, only to fall unconscious immediately afterwards. In the past, Mongul has been known to shrink down his enemies, entrapping them in small dimensional-inversion cubes.

Emperor Joker
What’s worse than a murderous madman that dresses like a clown? A murderous madman that dresses like a clown with the powers of a god. After the Joker steals Mr. Mxyzptlk’s reality-altering powers, the Clown Prince of Crime reshapes the entirety of our world in his own image. Literally. Our planet literally has the Joker’s face. During his reign as Emperor, the Joker would keep Earth’s people in an infinite time-loop (because he thinks it’s funny), spending each and every day torturing and killing Batman in the most horrific ways imaginable.
