'X-Men: Days Of Future Past': 5 Mutants For Josh Helman

Josh Helman

As if Bryan Singer's highly-anticipated "X-Men: Days of Future Past" wasn't already chock full of lovable mutants, Josh Helman ("Jack Reacher," "Mad Max: Fury Road") has just been thrown into the mix as well. According to the Wrap, Helman's role, while still a huge mystery at this time, is most likely one of great importance based on the fact that the Australian-born actor is due on set for several weeks of shooting.

But with literally no clues to go off of at this point, Josh Helman could be playing virtually anyone! Good mutant, bad mutant, perhaps even a non-mutant character. They're all fair game for Helman's mystery role. So who exactly could Josh Helman be playing in "Days of Future Past"?

Warren Worthington III is actually a founding member of the X-Men, despite his absence in "X-Men: First Class." While the character appeared in "X-Men: The Last Stand," there have thus far been no attempts to bring Warren back. He does play a pivotal role in the "Days of Future Past" story arc in the comics, there's a chance that he - or a winged precursor - could be appearing in the "Days of Future Past" film.

Sure, we know that Peter Dinklage is the main villain of "Days of Future Past" but is he the only villain? A mutant immigrant from the Greek island of Crete, Dominikos Petrakis has the ability to generate seismic waves from his hands that are large enough to create earthquakes. Avalanche's first appearance is actually during the "Days of Future Past" story arc, so it wouldn't be completely out of the question to see him pop up on the silver screen.

His name is Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich circus he was known as the Incredible Nightcrawler! Portrayed by Alan Cumming in 2003's "X2," Nightcrawler is another crucial X-Man that has yet to reappear within the franchise. While Cumming has nixed hopes of his return as Nightcrawler, perhaps Helman could be playing a younger version of the character. Plus, the comic book source material is where Nightcrawler first had a hunch that he may be related to the similarly blue-skinned Mystique. Could they set up that connection?

Like Avalanche, Pyro is an evil mutant that first appears during the "Days of Future Past" storyline. Born in Australia, John Allerdyce possesses the ability to psionically control any and all types of fire and flames. In "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand," Pyro is portrayed by Aaron Stanford. While no mention has been made of a re-appearance from Stanford, who's to say Josh Helman couldn't just take up the role in his stead? Or since fire manipulation isn't that original of a power, perhaps there's another fire-wielder in the 1970s that'll help round out the Brotherhood.

The biggest and most important founding member of the X-Men, Scott Summers' demise in "X-Men: The Last Stand" was largely criticized by hardcore X-Men fans and newer X-Men fans alike. Often times acting as team leader in the field, Cyclops is arguably one of the most well known of all the X-Men, just after Wolverine. Perhaps Fox will come to their senses and include a young Cyclops in the "First Class" sequel, as portrayed by the up and coming Josh Helman.
