'Doctor Strange': 5 Frequently Used Spells & Incantations

Doctor Strange

by Ryan Rigley

By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! Although no definite answer has been given thus far, it would appear as though a "Doctor Strange" movie is finally in the works over at Marvel Studios. Judging by the ample amounts of rumors regarding the film as of late, the Sorcerer Supreme will allegedly be playing a "hub" role in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much in same vein as Tony Stark in Phase 1.

While long-time Marvel fans may be elated by these rumors, newer and more casual Marvel fans might have absolutely no idea who Stephen Strange is. After all, the character isn't nearly as popular as Captain America or the Hulk. As the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange has a plethora of spells and incantation at his disposal that aid him in battle against the evil that dwells in other realms. Here are five you should brush up on, should the film get the official go-ahead.

Book of the Vishanti

The greatest source all of "white magic" spells on Earth, the book of Vishanti was written by an unknown author. The tome was most likely dictated to a human student by the Vishanti, three of the most powerful magical beings in the Marvel universe - Agamotto, Oshtur, and Hoggoth. The book contains mostly spells of defensive magic and is itself indestructible, as is its "black magic" counterpart, the Darkhold.

Eye of Agamotto

A long time ago, the third of the Vishantis created three separate eyes: an Eye of Power, an Eye of Truth, and an Eye of Prescience. Placing them under the care of the cosmic deity called Eternity, Doctor Strange would eventually come to Eternity seeking out the Eye of Prescience in order to defeat the dreaded Lord Dormammu. The Eye of Agamotto has the power to span great distances and also dispell all forms of mystical illusions.

Crimson Bands of Cyttorak

Most often used as a binding spell, Cyttorak is mystical entity that resides in a dimension called the Crimson Cosmos where time does not exist. Cyttorak is actually the exact same deity from which the Juggernaut draws his powers. Utilizing the Gem of Cyttorak, the Juggernaut possesses incredible superhuman strength being able to shatter an entire mountain and lifting skyscrapers to use as weapons.

Winds of Watoomb

Mainly cast as either an offensive spell or a means of transportation, Watoomb is a powerful mage turned deity that has complete control over Earth's weather. He has stored a great deal of his power inside a mystical artifact called the Wand of Watoomb, which is controlled by the thoughts of whoever wields it. The Wand of Watoomb can be used to absorb mystical energy, open dimensional portals, heal wounds, and, of course, control the weather.

Demons of Denak

Primarily used as an offensive attack, Denak is a mystical entity that rules over all of the demons that reside in the Raggadorr dimension. The spell itself, Demons of Denak, allows the caster of the spell limited control over said demons and manifests in the form of numerous invisible claws. Although it may sound inherently evil, the Demons of Denak spell has been used to defend against other enchantments in the past and can also restore any magical object to its original form.
