'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' To Have 'International Flair,' Says Singer At CineEurope

by Brett White

The CineEurope expo has concluded, leaving in its wake a few tidbits about some upcoming comic book movies: "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Thor: The Dark World," and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." SreenDaily has extensive notes about the presentations. Writing about Fox's presentation, ScreenDaily writes:

"Other highlights in the Fox presentation included... an action sequence from 'The Wolverine,' and Bryan Singer's behind-the-scenes video tour of the set of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past.' Singer noted there was 'a very international flavor to the film' as it is set in Russia, France, China, Washington D.C., New York and beyond."

I have to say, that's awesome news.

Even though I started reading X-Men comics in early 1993, I still managed to get a hold of a reprint of 1975's "Giant-Size X-Men" #1, the comic responsible for introducing Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler and adding Wolverine to the team. It's a big deal. And in that issue, in the very first few pages, Professor X visits Canada, Russia, Japan, Africa, Germany and Nashville - which is important to me as a Tennessean. But the X-Men were international, and that classic team's first few missions took them all over the world, from Scotland to Antarctica and a bunch of places in between. The films eased off of the globe-hopping, so it's cool to see it finally incorporated.

And don't think I didn't catch that "and beyond" bit. What are you doing, Singer? If you are putting the Shi'ar Empire on the big screen, I will flip out.

ScreenDaily also has quick bits from "Cap" and "Thor," though neither is as juicy as the X-Men quote. Director Joe Russo said that "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will be "much greater than any Marvel movie to date" in a behind-the-scenes video, and a new production featurette for "Thor: The Dark World" premiered, although no details about it were given.

Still, that X-Men update is exciting.
