Doug Jones Wants ‘Hellboy 3′ To Happen

by Brett White

Contortionist-turned-actor Doug Jones recently spoke with Collider about his role as the alien Cochise on the sci-fi drama “Falling Skies.” The role isn’t the first one to involve heavy makeup and a precise execution of body language; he has previously played the lead Gentleman in the “Buffy” episode “Hush,” the Silver Surfer in “Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer,” El Fauno in “Pan’s Labyrinth,” and – the reason we’re writing this article – Abe Sapien in the two “Hellboy” films.

Jones continues to have a lot of love for the merman that he made famous thanks to his unmistakable movements, which came up during the interview.

“I think Abe Sapien, from the Hellboy movies is the one [role] I’m most proud of. He’s near and dear to my heart. After doing two feature films and two animated features and a video game, he and I have gotten very close, over the years. And hopefully, we can do a ’Hellboy 3,’ one day.”

So add Doug Jones’ name to the lengthy list of people clamoring for more big screen Hellboy. But the film hasn’t had an easy road to production. Creator Mike Mignola stated that it wasn’t happening, before retracting his statement.

Director Guillermo Del Toro revealed that lack of financing is holding the film back. “It’s hard to find who finances it,” he explained. “It’s the biggest chapter of the three movies. Hellboy becomes the beast of the apocalypse. We’ve inquired, but so far, if you know a rich uncle with $130 million…”

Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, is also up for donning the red makeup a third time, should the film find funding.

“The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve,” the actor previously told Entertainment Weekly a year ago. “Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”
