New photos from the set of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” have arrived online thanks to the Cleveland Heights Patch, showing a new side of an old friend for the very first time. We’ll say no more until after the jump. Suffice it to say, spoilers ahead.
The Patch reports that filming was taking place at a residence on Harcourt Boulevard, which was being converted into a nursing home where Cap is visiting some of his old World War II pals. One such pal: a decidedly elderly Peggy Carter, played once again by Hayley Atwell, sporting enough old-age make-up to make Carla Gugino circa “Watchmen” blush.
It’s not a huge shock that Grandma Peggy has a role to play in “Winter Soldier.” Atwell already confirmed that she shot a short film for Marvel, and Joss Whedon had even written a scene for Peggy in “The Avengers.”
“One of the best scenes that I wrote was the beautiful and poignant scene between Steve and Peggy [Carter] that takes place in the present,” Whedon said last year. “And I was the one who was like, Guys, we need to lose this. It was killing the rhythm of the thing.”
Much like they did with Agent Coulson, it looks like Marvel has found a way to un-kill modern-day Peggy — and it looks like Steve might get that long-awaited dance after all.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” arrives on April 4, 2014.
