Yeah, “Doctor Strange” has only been half sorta quasi kinda confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The solo film was first mentioned back in January as being part of Phase 3 alongside “Ant-Man.”
“’Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them,” Feige confirmed. “He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ’Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ’Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.”
With Marvel reserving two more dates for two more mystery pictures, it’s entirely possible that they’re ready to confirm “Doctor Strange” during their big presentations at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con. And Latino Review has a hunch as to who Stephen Strange will be squaring off against.
According to Latino Review, the good doctor will battle Dormammu, Baron Mordo and the Mindless Ones. Dormammu is the flame-headed ruler of the Dark Dimension and quite a handful even for those skilled in the mystic arts. Baron Mordo is another human sorcerer, like Stephen Strange, who also studied under the Ancient One. The Mindless Ones are more cannon fodder, like the Chitauri in “Avengers.” They’re rocky monsters from another dimension who usually serve Dormammu, and can shoot energy blasts from their eye.
None of this is terribly surprising, as these three villains are pretty integral to all things Strange. This is as big of a no-brainer as including Magneto in the first “X-Men” movie. If this source is true, the real question is which of Strange’s supporting cast will show up in the movie? Will his servant and sidekick Wong make it into the adaptation? What about Clea, Doctor Strange’s sorceress love interest? Or while we’re at it, how about any female characters that aren’t his love interest? I’m stumped on that one, sadly.
Anyway, while this is still a rumor, it doesn’t seem far-fetched. That is, if “Doctor Strange” gets a release date next month.
