Presenting The Splash Page Super-Film Calendar

by Lauren Mandel

With summer being the biggest major motion picture season of the year, making a choice for your Saturday night at the movies can often feel a little overwhelming. From “Iron Man 3” to “Man of Steel” it’s clear the season is already off to a fantastic start! But to help you keep your cool and plan your weekends well in advance, we’ve created a calendar of upcoming action packed comic book-inspired movies set to release throughout the next five years!

» July 26th: “The Wolverine” (Marvel)

Embedded from

Whether surrounded by his fellow mutants or independently taking on ninjas, we just can’t get enough of Wolverine. In Hugh Jackman’s second solo movie as the invincible Logan, his character is pushed to physical and emotional limits when he travels to Japan and finds himself confronted with a face from his past. Our viewing tip: Don’t forget to stick around after the film for a post-credits scene!

» August 16th: “Kick-Ass 2” (Universal Pictures)

Earlier this week we took you inside “The Evil Lair” and gave you the inside scoop from the cast of “Kick-Ass 2″ during their last few days of shooting. We learned that in addition to farcical humor and intense action, you can expect a heartfelt story from Chloë Grace Moretz’s character Mindy Macready.

» November 8th: “Thor: The Dark World” (Marvel)

With the wild success of “Marvel’s The Avengers” last summer, it’s no surprise how quick the turn around in between filming has been for this hammer-wielding god. In the sequel “Thor: The Dark World,” Chris Hemsworth’s Norse warrior takes on a more rugged, ancient look as Thor and Jane Foster go up against revenge-seeking super-villain, Malekith.

» April 4th: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (Marvel)

Already deep into production of the new “Captain America” sequel, the anticipation continues to build as photos emerge daily from the set. With updated pictures from the shoot in Cleveland, it appears the film’s new present day time-period means a change for Captain America’s suit as well.

» May 2nd: “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” (Marvel)

With shocking news that Shailene Woodley’s appearance as Mary Jane Watson has been pushed back to “The Amazing Spider-Man 3,” we’ve chosen to stay positive and assume that the film was just overloaded with too much action to throw MJ in the mix just yet. So for now we’ll just have to look forward to a possible love triangle between Peter, Gwen and (maybe, just maybe) Black Cat!

» July 18th: “X-Men: Days of Future Past” (Marvel)

Currently shooting in Canada, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is constantly on our radar with news of more stars joining the X-Men family (like Quicksilver). While we are still waiting on the official confirmation regarding Peter Dinklage’s role as Bolivar Trask, we are already psyched to see that that Trask Industries will be playing a big role in the highly anticipated film.

» August 1st: “Guardians of the Galaxy” (Marvel)

When we first heard that Marvel would be producing its’ first purely-cosmic film, we just assumed it couldn’t get any better! That was until we heard the incredible list of actors starring in the film. The cast of characters extends from our favorite galaxy gal Zoe Saldana (Gamora) to Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Benicio Del Toro and Glenn Close, whose character is still yet to be announced. Most recently, Deadline reported that John C. Reilly is officially on board to star as Nova Corps member Rhomann Dey.

» May 1st: “The Avengers 2” (Marvel)
While we’re still not over the first one, pre-production for “Avengers 2″ is already well underway. Unfortunately, Joss Whedon has confirmed that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will not be returning for the upcoming sequel, and we are still waiting on word from Robert Downey Jr. Not to worry, though, as Whedon has already announced that he has “no intention of making ‘Avengers 2’ without him.”

» November 6th: “Ant-Man” (Marvel)

“Ant-Man” is officially confirmed and into pre-production as we speak, but don’t expect news on casting rumors until the end of the year. The project is currently going through re-writes according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. This is only the start of news beginning to buzz around Marvel’s Phase 3 films!

» June 10th: “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” (Marvel)

» May 4th: “The Amazing Spider-Man 4” (Marvel)
So it’s clear that MJ will make her debut in third or fourth installment in the “Amazing Spider-Man” franchise, but it’s too soon to say what else we can expect from Spidey (maybe an appearance by the Sinister Six?). For now we’re just soaking up the recent news that the sequels are officially confirmed!

… and this is only the start of what’s to come! We cannot wait to see which of our other favorite characters’ stories will be told in the upcoming years. Possible proposals include favorites such as Black Panther, Inhumans, Doctor Strange and Justice League Dark!
