Howard Stark, father of Tony, played a pivotal role in "Captain America: The First Avenger." The charismatic scientist worked on the Super Soldier program that gave Steve Rogers his power and he built Cap's shield. With so many ties to the character, it makes sense that Dominic Cooper would return as Stark in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
That is, of course, until you remember that the sequel has moved from the 1940s to the present day. So exactly how does Howard Stark, a character without the superhuman power of longevity, factor into Steve Rogers' current life? Cooper revealed to UK TV show "This Morning" that not even he's sure.
"I went off and shot something, but I can't even work out how my character can be in it," says Cooper. "Wouldn't I be dead? But anything is possible. They are quite secretive about where they are going to go with the characters and how it will slot in, you have no idea. So you turn up, put your costume on and do as you are told."
Cooper acknowledged his relative cluelessness regarding the role.
"I have definitely put the costume on. I have worn the costume and we have shot something, but how it's going to enter into the next phase of what they are planning I don't know. I sound so dodgy, I don't even believe myself! I have shot some scenes."
This is progress considering that almost exactly a year ago Cooper wasn't even sure he'd return.
"I just don't know," he told Collider a year ago. "The next one I imagine will come later. But you never know, anything can happen to any of the characters at any time. They're like the comics. But I don't know. They're incredible projects."
Could it be that Cooper will pop up in the confirmed Peggy Carter short film, set during or around World War II? That would not only make sense, but it would be awesome to have Cooper reunite with Hayley Atwell.
