It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s another “Superman” movie! With the release of “Man of Steel” just around corner, we here at Splash Page cannot wait to see what Michael Shannon has cooked up for his portrayal of the evil Kryptonian, General Zod – a role, that you’ll recall, was played by Terence Stamp in “Superman II.”
However, despite Superman’s ever-expanding list of adversaries, it seems like the only two that we’ve ever seen on the big screen are Zod and Lex Luthor. Why these two villains have become the only two movie-worthy antagonists is beyond us, but hopefully the success of “Man of Steel” will spark a “Super” sequel featuring one of the following five Superman villains.
Created by the Computer Tyrants of the alien planet Colu, Braniac is a cold, calculating, virtually indestructible artificial intelligence created with the sole purpose of conquering other worlds. He was actually set to be the main villain of Tim Burton’s “Superman Lives,” starring Nicolas Cage as Superman, but unfortunately that project just never seemed to get off the ground.
Bizarro am good! Bizarro love Superman! For those of you unfamiliar with the way Bizarro speaks, that previous statement means the exact opposite of what it says. Genetically engineered to be a perfect clone of Superman, the original Bizarro quickly deteriorated due to poorly constructed genetics. Now Bizarro is the exact opposite of Superman in every way; he flies backwards, has cold vision, and is good friends with Lex Luthor.
A former Daily Planet journalist, John Corben sets out to expose the Man of Steel for the monster that he really is but is then hit by a passing truck. Upon discovering Corben’s near-lifeless body, General Zod runs some experiments on the reporter utilizing stolen technology from LuthorCorp. Eventually, Corben’s brain is placed inside of a cyborg body powered by a Kryptonite heart.
Best known as the beast that killed Superman, Doomsday is a monster born in the prehistoric ages of Krypton. Every time he dies, he comes back to life with an immunity/resistance to whatever previously killed him. That said, Doomsday is now centuries old and practically immortal. He has, at one point, taken down the entire Justice League single handedly.
The unquestioned ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid is a cruel and merciless tyrant hellbent on recovering the “Anti-Life Equation” which will give him the power to conquer the entire universe. He has the unique ability to shoot Omega Beams from his eyes, which have the power to disintegrate, teleport, or resurrect depending on his mood. Darkseid is the most evil and arguably one of the most powerful beings in the entire DC universe.
