Marc Webb’s 2012 Spidey reboot, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” excluded the essential J. Jonah Jameson. The cigar chomping and loud talking newspaper publisher has harassed Spider-Man for 50 years in the comics and in Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy, where he was played by the always awesome J.K. Simmons.
With Webb’s new series continuing in next year’s “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” it’s not unreasonable to assume that J. Jonah Jameson could show up again. In an exclusive interview, MTV Geek asked Simmons if he has plans to play Jameson again.
“There’s always talk. I’m doing it in animation land [on ’Ultimate Spider-Man’], but Sam Raimi’s take on the world of Spider-Man has run its course. We were all excited and ramping up for ’Spider-Man 4′ a few years ago, but for a variety of ridiculous showbiz reasons it ended up not happening. The reboot is a very different universe. Both versions are legitimate, and this one doesn’t have a J. Jonah Jameson so far. As far as I know, I won’t be putting on the flat-top again.”
Just last year Simmons mentioned he’d be up for reprising the role, so even though it doesn’t look like he’ll be popping up in “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” we have our fingers crossed for the future. Head over to MTV Geek for the complete interview, including Simmons’ thoughts on “Dark Skies” and “Arrested Development.”
