'Man Of Steel' Trailer: Zod Gives Earth 24 Hour Warning

by Brett White

Listen, we're still reeling from the awesomeness of the last "Man of Steel" trailer. Now there's another one, one that somehow builds on the film's already tremendous momentum. The last trailer was built around hope, this one is built around, well... pain. The Earth is in peril, jets are punched, people scream, things get serious. Check out the full trailer below.

And here are six must-see moments from the action packed. trailer.

You are not alone

"I have journeyed across an ocean of stars to greet you," says General Zod (Michael Shannon) in the trailer's opening. But his greeting isn't exactly friendly. The new trailer expands on the message Zod gave back in a previous TV spot, as he gives Earth an ultimatum: either give Kal-El up within 24 hours or he'll bust out the...

Big weapons

General Zod is not messing around. The trailer is packed more shots of what can only be Kryptonian war ships that we previously saw in another TV spot. "The fate of your planet rests in your hands," Zod narrates while Metropolis gets menaced. Zod makes a pretty good point, Earth...

Faora speaks

This trailer gives Zod's ally Faora (Antje Traue) her first speaking line, and it's a doozy. "You will not win," she growls. "For every human you save, we will kill a million more." Faora gets a lot of action in this trailer, from what we can tell. It's hard to make out exactly who is under those Kryptonian armor suits, but it looks like Faora jumps headfirst into a jet. These Kryptonians are not messing around.

Drowning in skulls?!

And here's the big WTF moment. Pretty much any time your lead character appears to be drowning in a mountain of skulls, it's a WTF moment. What is going on here? Is Zod a skull hoarder? Is this a dream sequence? Is this symbolic of Superman's feelings about Krypton's destruction? Is there a portion of "Man of Steel" directed by the guy who did Tool music videos?

Lois suits up

Unlike Pepper Potts in "Iron Man 3," Lois doesn't seem to be too willing to suit up in Kryptonian armor. It looks like this footage comes from the same scene as a photo we've seen before, where it looks like Lois has been captured by Faora.

The heat is on

The penultimate shot of the trailer (right before a double dose of Superman flying punches) is of Superman cutting loose with his heat vision. This is the first "Man of Steel" footage we've seen of Superman using this power, and it doesn't look to be under the best of circumstances. See that hand around Superman's throat? This heat blast is coming from one desperate and angry Superman.
