Entertainment Weekly Confirms New Avengers, Shows Off 'Winter Soldier' Art

Iron Man

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly is jam-packed with updates about all of Marvel's Phase Two films, just in time for the next phase's beginning in "Iron Man 3." The magazine, which boasts a cover containing "Iron Man 3" stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, claims that a source has confirmed that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are indeed in "The Avengers 2." The confirmation comes after last week's surprise mention of their possible involvement. Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige addressed the rumors.

"All of the Avengers from the first film will be back and they will be the core team, but what's fun is that the roster shifts. It was always the intention to have a story line that brought in, obviously, new bad guys and potentially new heroes. I'm not confirming nor denying [Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver], but the draft could change six months from now. If we're going to add new characters, there's going to be a major part of the movie." Even if he isn't confirming or denying, it sounds like Feige is at least half-confirming that they are in the current script.

You can check out the magazine's full cover, as well as new info about "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," below.

As mum as Feige was regarding Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, he opened up considerably more about "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

"We weren't going back to World War II," says Feige about next year's sequel. "Cap cannot travel in time. So while Tony can go home to Malibu and Thor goes up to Asgard and Hulk can sort of ride the rails, Cap was stuck. So Cap does stay with S.H.I.E.L.D. because he has nowhere else to go. But he's not necessarily comfortable there. And just as he's given permission to let go of the past and to focus on the modern world, a ghost comes up."

That ghost is, of course, the Winter Soldier. Entertainment Weekly also showed off more concept art of the titular antagonist.

It looks like the latest Entertainment Weekly is perfect reading material while you're waiting in line to see "Iron Man 3" this weekend. Let Phase Two begin!
