Deadline has a hunch that "Girls" actress Allison Williams is on the short list for the upcoming "Fantastic Four." The site notes that very early talks have begun and... that's really all the news. But any news about this film is news considering how close the new FF film is to its start date (June 17th!) and how there have yet to be any casting announcements (but a few rumors). Actual human beings need to show up on set when the film starts shooting in just over six weeks.
It's most likely that Williams is in talks to play the Invisible Woman, previously portrayed by Jessica Alba in the last two "Fantastic Four" films. Williams is as known for being the daughter of NBC news anchor Brian Williams as she is for her regular role on HBO's "Girls"; she's yet to have any other big credits to her name and a leading turn in "Fantastic Four" could easily take her visibility to the next level.
Williams plays one of the more responsible characters on "Girls," which shows that she has the potential to give Sue Storm the gravitas befitting of the Marvel Universe's First Lady (and the company's actual first lady). The film is being directed by Josh Trank ("Chronicle") from a screenplay polished up by Seth Grahame-Smith ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"). A possible logline for the film was uncovered by Latino Review, but it was shot down by original screenwriter Jeremy Slater.
With a start date just around the corner, we should expect to start hearing some "Fantastic Four" casting news sooner rather than later.
