Does 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Take Place In Another Dimension's Future?

Guardians of the Galaxy

A series of casting calls brought to light by Bleeding Cool have revealed more about the setting for "Guardians of the Galaxy." Numerous listings mention that the film is set "in the future of a different dimension," which is a twist on the previous rumor that the film is set in 2045. They also reveal that the film is looking for a galaxy's worth of specific types of actors. Check out the casting call listings below.

The Core For the new Marvel super hero film we are looking for males and females who are seasoned professional SAs to be a core group of people who will be used for a variety of different roles throughout the whole of filming.

Being on an Alien planet For new Marvel Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for males and females who are amputees.

Doubling for the Super hero For new Marvel Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for males to double for one of the main actors.

Albino males and females For new Marvel Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for males and females who are Albinos.

Tall Aliens For new Marvel Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for tall males to play aliens.

Mutant soldiers For new Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for males with Stunt or SPAK experience to play mutant soldiers.

Getting around with no hair For new Super hero film about a team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy in the future of a different dimension, we are looking for bald males and females.

It's kinda charming that the listings repeatedly refer to film as starring a "team of super heroes who protect the Galaxy" instead of using its comically similar actual title, "Guardians of the Galaxy." People showing up expecting to audition for a Starjammers motion picture will be let down.

I don't know how I feel about the film being set in the future, let alone the future of another dimension. Sure it seemed like having aliens in "Avengers" was a leap that broke the previously set boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I'm keeping an open mind. I just worry that if the listed setting is true, "Guardians" will be too far removed from the established Marvel Universe. And I only say this because I don't yet see a problem with having the team in space, in our dimension, in our time. That's how this incarnation's comic series worked, and I don't see what adding in these weird hurdles accomplishes. How does the future of a different dimension in outer space look any different from how outer space in our dimension looks now?

Maybe this ties into Michael Rooker's casting; Rooker is playing Yondu Udonta, a character who is from the distant future in the comics. If "Guardians" is set in modern day, or the year 2045 in our dimension, maybe the team will travel to wherever Yondu Udonta is chilling out with his cool head fin.

Rumors and speculation for "Guardians of the Galaxy" is coming fast and furiously, and 2014 (and answers) can't get here quick enough.
