'Captain America: The Winter Soldier': Falcon Will Play An 'Integral Role'

Expect Anthony Mackie's character Falcon to play a pretty big role in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." In a recent interview with BlackFilm, Mackie teased the way Falcon and his "military style tactical costume" will play a major part in the plot of the upcoming Marvel superhero film.

"I'm happy to say that I’m in a good deal of the movie and I play an integral part with Captain America taking down the Winter Soldier. It's great," Mackie told BlackFilm. "They started the shoot two-and-a-half weeks ago and once I finished doing press for 'Pain & Gain,' I go in and join them. I've been doing combat training and fitness training just to get prepared. It's going to be something and I'm excited for it."

It's already been revealed that Mackie's Falcon will have wings and be able to fly in the upcoming movie. That's a bit of a departure from the tone of "Captain America: The First Avenger," though it's more in line with what we've come to expect in a post-"The Avengers" world. As for his costume, Mackie previously told MTV News that it makes Falcon look "like a bad mother-what."

"The Winter Soldier's" writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely confirmed recently that this movie will indeed be a departure from "The First Avenger." "It'll feel like a different genre, we can say that. We’re very proud of the first one because it was our love letter, and Joe Johnston's love letter, to Indiana Jones, so it had that Forties vibe to it," McFeely said. "This is much more of a modern conspiracy political thriller. So it's a fast ride. The action will fell commensurate. You'll see Cap fight in a way that you have never seen before, or at least not for him. The DNA is the same, but the animal is different."
