Last night’s 2013 MTV Movie Awards were an explosive celebration of 2012’s films, and that celebration wouldn’t be complete without some “Avengers.” Luckily Earth’s Mightiest Heroes took home a few Golden Buckets for saving the Earth from Loki’s invading army in last year’s mega-blockbuster, “Marvel’s the Avengers.” The film took home Best Fight, Best Villain and Movie of the Year, becoming the most awarded film of the night.
“We are humbled to be standing here,” said director Joss Whedon while claiming the award for Movie of the Year. “We’re not humbled, we won. What’s the opposite of humbled? We’re Biebered to be standing here.” Whedon accepted the award alongside Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston.
Considering that everyone with $10 to spend saw “Marvel’s The Avengers” last year, it’s no surprise that the film won so many awards. It was the world’s favorite movie last year and the voting audience’s favorite movie this year. Whedon was particularly proud to win this award, considering that it was bestowed upon him by the fans.
“This is the award that means the most to me. I am so grateful and I am very excited for 2015 when we’re going to bring you ’Avengers 2.'”
Tom Hiddleston has enjoyed a tremendous amount of fan adoration thanks to his portrayal of Loki in both “Thor” and “Marvel’s the Avengers.” Tonight, that adoration turned into an award.
“I am Loki of Asgard,” Hiddleston began his acceptance speech for Best Villain. “And I am burdened with glorious popcorn.” Hiddleston will have another chance to win this award next year, as he’s reprising the mischievous role for a third time in “Thor: The Dark World.”
The first award the film won was Best Fight, and deservedly so. The fight, which took up the film’s entire third act and saw a sizable chunk of Manhattan get turned to rubble, beat out brawls from “Ted,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Django Unchained” and “Skyfall.” The skirmish contained one vengeful Norse god, six superheroes, dozens of giant flying space eels and hundreds of aliens. If you need a reminder of the fight and the film’s awesomeness, just check out the clips below.
