After "Marvel's the Avengers" smashed a couple dozen box office records, it's safe to say that a lot of actors wouldn't mind assembling alongside Iron Man and Captain America. The cast of "Avengers" just made it look like so much fun, and that's some fun that action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme wouldn't mind getting in on. If Joss Whedon wants a bit of Van Damme's brand of kickboxing-inspired action, that is. The actor wrote on his Facebook page:
"Well, it would be fun to play one of these types of amazing comic book characters again. By the way, I am a big fan of Marvel's superhero Silver Surfer and also another heroic fictional character known as Doc Savage - the Man of Bronze!"
Van Damme's fans (Fan Dammes if you will) will have to wait a while for the opportunity to see their favorite actor as the aforementioned Silver Surfer in an Avengers film. The movie rights for the Fantastic Four (including the Surfer) are tied up at Fox right now and they're gearing up for a reboot. So while Van Damme might not surf the cosmos alongside his pal Chris Hemsworth, maybe the higher-ups over at Fox have heard his wish.
Doc Savage is a pulp character from the 1930s that's been featured in everything from novels to radio dramas and even a couple of films. Marvel published two "Doc Savage" mini-series in the 1970s, and the rights have since moved over to DC Comics who published an ongoing series starring the Man of Bronze in 2010, lasting 18 issues. We actually think a turn as Doc Savage would be pretty awesome for JCVD and, of course, his Fan Dammes.
