After Joss Whedon already called "Planet Hulk" rumors "nonsense," Mark Ruffalo has come forward to set the record straight about the plans for his Marvel character. He took to Twitter to say, yes, fans won't see the Hulk before "The Avengers 2."
"A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone," he tweeted. "I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring."
That means, unfortunately, that Hulk won't appear in any of the other standalone movies in Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- or at least, Ruffalo isn't able to talk about potential cameos. It also means that there won't be a standalone "Hulk" movie before 2016, which we already assumed. Whedon recently opened up about the difficulties of giving Hulk his own movie.
"Hulk is a tricky son of a bitch," he said at the Glasgow Film Festival. "He's the Claudio of superheroes. Because the problem is it’s a very popular character, but it’s not a superhero. Half of it’s a superhero, half of it’s a werewolf. And you can’t structure it like a superhero movie, you can’t light it like a superhero movie. How do you develop that?"
"It would be extremely difficult," Whedon continued. "The one thing you would have in your favour would be Mark Ruffalo. But right now I don’t know if they have plans to do that or not, because he works so well as part of a greater whole, but by himself, it’s tough. I don’t envy the guys who went before."
