"Kick-Ass 2" may be chock full of new villains with vulgar names, but it's still quite a challenge to match the intensity that was Frank D'Amico, the ruthless mob boss as played by Mark Strong in the first film. Going so far as to murder Big Daddy on live television, D'Amico was certainly a force to be reckoned with. Before he got brutally murdered, that is. But the question remains, will we be seeing Frank in any way, shape or form in the "Kick-Ass" sequel?
"Not in 'Kick-Ass 2' because I was blown off of a balcony with a bazooka. It’s not easy to come back from that," joked Mark Strong on revisiting the role of D'Amico in a recent interview with MTV Splash Page. "But the door is not necessarily closed on that particular character."
"There was talk of possibly playing one of Frank’s relations, perhaps his brother or something," Strong continued. "But that never materialized because I couldn’t make the dates work and I’m not sure if that’s still in there."
In the comic books, Chris Genovese (a.k.a. the Red Mist) does receive some help from his father's brother, Uncle Ralphie, who later takes over the family business much to the dismay of Chris. Could this have been the role that Matthew Vaughn had in mind for Strong?
"I spoke to Matthew Vaughn, the director of 'Kick-Ass,' about it," said Strong. "And while we were talking about that Matthew was mentioning that he was writing more. So there might be life in Frank D’Amico yet! But how that’s going to come about, I have no idea."
Obviously, Frank D'Amico could always come back in the form of a flashback or ghostly apparition. However, it's quite interesting to imagine what "Kick-Ass 2" would have been like with Strong playing a completely different character. Either way, here's hoping that we see more of the actor as a crazy, violent mob boss in the not so distant future!
