Bryan Singer Will Retcon 'X-Men' With 'Days Of Future Past'

As has already been pointed out, the "X-Men" movies have a ridiculously convoluted continuity. But don't worry about that going into "X-Men: Days of Future Past," because director Bryan Singer has everything under control.

Singer directed "X-Men" and "X2" and produced "X-Men: First Class," but he hasn't had anything to do with "X-Men: The Last Stand" or the two standalone Wolverine movies. Now that he's signed on to helm "Days of Future Past," Singer said he's going to set the franchise back on track.

"I'll be able to correct a few things," he told HitFix with a smile.

That's an intriguing concept. Hopefully that will mean doing things like bringing James Marsden's Scott Summers back from the grave. Singer promised "Days of Future Past" will feel like an all new "X-Men" movie, so fingers crossed.

"This movie's gonna be not only quite epic, 'Days of Future Past,' but it also takes place in completely different times than the 'X Men' movies have taken place," he said. "There'll be new technology, new things we haven't seen before in 'X-Men' films. Certain characters and certain story and certain drama that hasn't be done yet, so it's not so much sequel. It's more of its own kinda thing."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is slated for a July 18, 2014 release date.
