'Spider-Man' Sequel Hires Paul Giamatti As The Rhino

Paul Giamatti

Jamie Foxx won't be alone when he rocks Spider-Man's world in 2014. Joining him for some bad guy action is none other than Paul Giamatti, who is in talks to join the "Amazing Spider-Man 2" cast as The Rhino.

News of Giamatti's casting comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. It's the first we've heard of Giamatti's involvement in the film, as well as the first word on the Rhino having a place in the movie — but it's not the first time we've heard Giamatti and Rhino mentioned in the same breath.

"The Rhino was fantastic. He was, like, a Russian guy. He was real fast and he hit stuff real hard," he said about his Rhino fandom in a 2011 interview. "He had, like, a rhino suit on, and his face was sticking out of the rhino suit and he had a horn."

All these years later, it looks like Giamatti is getting his wish to play Rhino after all!

In addition to Giamatti's impending casting, THR reports that Felicity Jones is "negotiating for an unspecified role" in the coming sequel. Though we don't know who Jones is in line for, here's an interesting factoid we do know: her name was mentioned as a candidate for the "Captain America 2" female lead, a role that remains uncast. One wonders if her "Spider-Man" involvement takes Jones out of the running for the "Cap" sequel.

Directed by Marc Webb and starring returning players Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the untitled "Amazing Spider-Man" sequel swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
