"There is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it," Jackman told Parade. Though that was as much as he elaborated on the subject, we have a feeling we know who he could be talking about: Famke Janssen.
"But Wolverine killed Jean Grey/Phoenix at the end of 'X-Men: The Last Stand'!" you might say. So he did -- but that doesn't mean she needs to stay dead forever. Rumors of Janssen's cameo appearance first surfaced in October, but we'll have to wait until "The Wolverine" comes out on July 26 to know for sure if she's actually in the film.
As for when "The Wolverine" takes place chronologically, Jackman confirmed what we already know and said this movie takes place after the end of "X-Men: The Last Stand."
"My character is at his lowest," he said. "He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him."
James Mangold directs "The Wolverine," which also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Tao Okamoto and Hal Yamanouchi. If not Janssen, we hope that the cameo is made by Anna Paquin's Rogue, since we miss the dynamic her character had with Wolverine in the first "X-Men" movie.
