Lee Pace Prepares Himself For 'Guardians' Audition

Lee Pace wants to become Star-Lord -- and next week, he'll have his chance.

"I go in on Monday to meet them all and audition for it, so wish me luck," the "Hobbit" actor told MTV News this week about the coveted "Guardians of the Galaxy" role he's currently rumored for. "I'm very excited about it. The script is great. The character is a lot of fun."

Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, is far from the best-known character in comic book lore. Once employed by NASA's space program, Quill seizes an opportunity to become the Star-Lord, a warrior with a gun capable of projecting any of the four elements: earth, wind, fire and water. (Sorry "Captain Planet" fans, no heart here.) Even if casual comics fans aren't well-acquainted with Quill, Pace said he's been busy doing his homework.

"I have been [reading up on Star-Lord]," he said. "You want to know what you're doing. The character is a lot of fun. I hope it works out."

Pace will need more than hope to win the role, based on the reported field of contenders he's up against -- a list that includes James Marsden, Joel Edgerton and more.

"We'll see. We'll see," he said about his chances of winning the Star-Lord role. "I've got to audition. I've got to go get it. I actually love auditioning, so I'm happy to go meet them all and do it."
