Dennis Haysbert Takes Over Michael Clarke Duncan’s Manute For ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’

The tragic death of Michael Clarke Duncan earlier this year meant we wouldn’t be seeing his interpretation of brutal bodyguard Manute in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.” But as fans of the graphic novel Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are adapting already know, Manute is an integral part of the upcoming sequel, leaving the co-directors with a tricky problem: do you recast Manute, or come up with a new character to replace him?

It seems that Rodriguez and Miller have opted for the former option, as Heat Vision reveals that “24” actor Dennis Haysbert is joining the “Dame to Kill For” cast as Manute, replacing the late Duncan.

“Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role onscreen,” said Rodriguez and Miller in an official statement. “We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast.”

Haysbert, best known for playing President David Palmer on five seasons of “24,” isn’t the only actor replacing an original cast member in “Dame to Kill For.” Also along for the ride is Jamie Chung, taking over the part of silent assassin Miho from “Sin City” actress Devon Aoki. Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and more are returning. The search continues for an actress to play femme fatale Ava Lord.

“Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” releases in theaters on October 4, 2013.
