Ian McKellen Says Gandalf Beats Magneto 'Every Time'

Patrick Stewart isn't sure about "X-Men: Days of Future Past," though Ian McKellen seems to be feeling more certain about the Bryan Singer-directed sequel. That still doesn't mean he thinks Magneto is an unbeatable foe, especially where his own oeuvre of characters is concerned.

McKellen appeared on The Colbert Report this week to promote "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," the actor's fourth appearance as Middle-earth's cheeriest wizard, Gandalf. The conversation between McKellen and Colbert ranged from political topics to sexually-charged jokes, as well as comparisons between Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White — as well as Gandalf and Magneto.

So, in McKellen's estimation, who wins in a fight between The Grey Wizard and the Master of Magnetism? Sorry, "X-Men" fans — but McKellen isn't siding with you on this one.

"Gandalf is more powerful than Magneto," said the actor. "[He wins] every time. The old guy will do it every time. He's 7,000 years old. He knows it all!"

Hard to argue with that logic! Watch the rest of the hilarious interview between McKellen and Colbert in the video below.
