'Arrow' Casts 'Spartacus' Actor As Slade Wilson

by Ryan Rigley

Although Slade Wilson (a.k.a. Deathstroke) has been teased on "Arrow" since its pilot episode, we've already gotten half way through the first season without being formerly introduced. Yes, the masked assassin has made an appearance on the show (in the form of a flashback) but we still haven't been told who he is or what he means to Oliver Queen.

However, it now seems like we'll be meeting Deathstroke sooner rather than later. As Entertainment Weekly reports, Manu Bennett (who is best known for his role as the fan-favorite Crixus on "Spartacus") has just been cast as Slade Wilson, a major antagonist for the "Arrow" series.

According to EW, Slade Wilson will be making an appearance in future flashbacks to the mysterious island of Lian Yu and even forging an "uneasy alliance" with Oliver Queen. This actually comes as a complete surprise, being that we are first introduced to Deathstroke as the masked man who tortures Oliver; tying him up and stabbing him with a knife.

But, of course, this alliance will only be temporary. After all, we see Deathstroke's mask with an arrow shot through it in the beginning of the pilot episode. Clearly, Oliver and Slade are going to be put at odds with each other at some point, resulting in what could very well become an epic battle to the death.

Deathstroke is without a doubt one of the most physically threatening opponents that Oliver Queen will ever come across. Nicknamed "The Terminator," Deathstroke is arguably the world's greatest tactician and assassin within the universe of DC Comics. He has been genetically engineered to be the perfect solider, possessing super strength, enhanced reflexes, and a healing factor that allows him to recover from near fatal injuries much faster than your average human.

Bennett, who is set to play Deathstroke in multiple episodes of the series, can also be seen in the upcoming final season of "Spartacus" as well as in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit," in which he plays an orc chieftain. As for when he'll be making his first appearance on the show, you'll just have to keep watching "Arrow" to find out.
