'Dark Knight Rises' Oscar Campaign Heats Up

"The Dark Knight Rises" wants your vote... if you're a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Oscar campaign for the Christopher Nolan movie is heating up, with "For Your Consideration" ads popping up around the web. A movie studio can suggest its film for a variety of potential Academy Award categories and, unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. thinks that "The Dark Knight Rises" should be up for all the major awards.

The film's awards site has a full list of the categories "The Dark Knight Rises" could get a nod in, and we'll delve into them after the jump.

"The Dark Knight" might have been denied its Best Picture Oscar nomination in 2009, but Warner Bros. is hoping the Academy doesn't make the same mistake twice. The studio is putting "The Dark Knight Rises" forth for the biggest award of the year, and also suggests that Christopher Nolan get a nod for Best Director. It's worth noting that after "The Dark Knight" was snubbed, "Inception" earned a nomination for Best Picture (in addition to seven other categories), and ended up taking away four technical Oscars (Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects). It could be that the Academy decides to walk the same path twice with its nominations for this movie.

"The Dark Knight Rises" might get a Best Picture nod (though "The Avengers" might be more well-suited to that honor this year), but the final Batman film is more likely to take home some of its technical nominations. Wally Pfister seems like a shoe-in for Best Cinematography, and WB is also suggesting "The Dark Knight Rises" for Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Score.

As for Best Adapted Screenplay and any Best Actor categories? Well, we'll have to wait and see if "The Dark Knight Rises" is deemed deserving.
