'Spider-Man' Sequel Eyes Jamie Foxx As Electro

Jamie Foxx

Forget about who's playing Harry Osborn. Look at who might be playing Electro: none other than the gun-slinging bounty hunter Django himself, Jamie Foxx.

Variety has the word that Foxx is in early talks to join the cast of "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" as the film's villain. They say the antagonist role is none other than Max Dillon, the electricity-manipulating criminal better known as Electro.

Electro has been kicking around the comic book world since 1964, but this would mark the Spidey villain's first trip to the silver screen … unless he was indeed the mystery villain at the heart of the "Spider-Man" reboot's secret scene, as many have speculated.

Either way, Foxx's potential casting is a huge coup for the "Spider-Man" team. Still, as much as I love the actor, I can't help but feel a bit let down by the news. An actor of Foxx's caliber deserves a higher-profile comic book role, I think. No disrespect towards Electro, but if you're going to get Foxx in a "Spider-Man" movie, go balls-out and cast him as Norman Osborn. That would be one hell of a move.

"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" arrives in theaters on May 2, 2014 from director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Shailene Woodley is also said to be joining the franchise as Mary Jane Watson.
