Joss Whedon Responds To 'Dark Knight' Cinematographer's 'Avengers' Diss

"The Dark Knight Rises" director of photography Wally Pfister is not a fan of "Marvel's The Avengers." Asked earlier this week about his thoughts on the Marvel Studios superhero movie, Pfister called it "an appalling film."

Don't expect "Avengers" director Joss Whedon to return the criticism, however. In fact, the director even refrained from his signature snark when Entertainment Weekly tracked him down for a reply to Pfister's comments.

"I'm sorry to hear it," he said of the response. "I'm a fan."

If you missed Pfister's comments from earlier this week, here they are again:

"I thought 'The Avengers' was an appalling film. They'd shoot from some odd angle and I'd think, why is the camera there? Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling."
