'Arrow' Crowns The Royal Flush Gang's King

Royal Flush Gang

Oliver Queen might be the protector of Starling City, but he's certainly not the King. That's a title reserved for actor Currie Graham, who is joining the "Arrow" cast as the leader of the Royal Flush Gang.

Graham's casting as King was announced during an "Arrow" press event this week ahead of the series premiere of the CW comic book adaptation. The entire Royal Flush Gang will make their debut during the show's sixth episode, and according to producers, these villains represent how "Arrow" plans to give seemingly fantastical characters a real-world spin.

"We think it’s one of the most successful attempts at alchemy that we’ve performed," writer and producer Andrew Kreisberg said, according to Green Arrow TV. "The Huntress is pretty much straight out of the book because she’s such a grounded character, but the Royal Flush Gang were the most outlandish villains from the comics, but they turned out to be our most grounded villains, and the relationship that Oliver has with King, the leader of the gang, we’re really proud of it."

Speaking further towards the real-world aspects of "Arrow," Kreisberg once again referenced the work Christopher Nolan did on his "Dark Knight" trilogy as a model to live up to.

"He took somebody like Ra’s Al Ghul, who in the comic books is immortal and uses magic to sustain himself, and created a storyline and characters and sleight of hands, so you felt the DNA of that character in the Liam Neeson portrayal without it actually being a direct copy," he said.
