George R.R. Martin And Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman': The Dream That Could Have Been

George R.R. Martin is best known for his novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" and the subsequent HBO adaptation "Game of Thrones," but he's a man of many hats — one of which is "Wild Cards," his ongoing science fiction and superhero anthology series.

Once upon a time, Martin passed on the opportunity to publish a little-known writer's idea about a hero who deals in dreams as part of the "Wild Cards" series — an idea that ultimately blossomed into a little something called "Sandman."
