Scott Porter Stumps For 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Role

After "Captain America" and "The Avengers," it's hard to imagine anyone other than Chris Evans playing the star-spangled superhero for Marvel Studios. But once upon a time, "Friday Night Lights" actor Scott Porter, who voices Cyclops on "X-Men Anime," was one of the potential stars in the mix to wield the shield on the big-screen.

That casting never panned out, but Porter, a lifelong comic book reader, hasn't given up on his superhero aspirations. In fact, based on what he recently told MTV News, Porter's gaze is firmly fixed on the stars.

"Marvel just announced that they're doing 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' which is another property that I love. I read it growing up," Porter told us on the red carpet for his new movie "Ten Years." "I'd love to play Nova or another [cosmic character]."

Asked to weigh in on the choice of James Gunn to direct "Guardians of the Galaxy," Porter said, "Gunn is a unique choice. I think he could be a really great shephard for that property. I think 'Guardians' is going to be a lot of fun. I think it'll be very cool. I thought the next thing I might try and go after is 'Heroes for Hire,' but it looks like 'Guardians' is around, so..."

"I think any kid who gets into the acting business, they have a couple of things that they always wanted to do," Porter added. "For me, it was like, play a war hero; play an athlete, which I've gotten to do; die a horrible death in a horror movie, which I've gotten to do; and then be a superhero. I've marked two things off the list, and I'm working on the others."
