‘Y: The Last Man’ Movie Is A Top Priority For New Line

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: there’s a “Y: The Last Man” movie in development.

Same story, different day, right? Apparently not, according to what Vulture has heard. A new version of “Y” is underway at New Line, and it is reportedly one of the company’s “first priorities.” Further fueling the optimistic outlook is the word that “the studio is very pleased with a draft from former Jericho writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, and has already begun the process of meeting with director candidates to hire for the project.”

That’s all well and good, but even still, “Y: The Last Man” has joined the likes of “Preacher,” “Sandman” and other Vertigo Comics titles that live firmly in the “we’ll believe it when we see it” camp. Personally speaking, there are few things in the world that would make me happier than a well-done series of “Y” films (try to do it in one and you will fail; better for television, yes, but if the story has to be a movie, it needs to span at least three or more films), but I’ve been burned before. Count me among the cautiously optimistic crowd on this one, but again — there’s that whole seeing is believing thing.
