Where will we see Hawkeye next? Jeremy Renner doesn't know. When we spoke with him at the "Bourne Legacy" press junket, the "Avengers" actor said that while he has plenty of other places to take Clint Barton, he doesn't know exactly where the avenging archer will land next.
By our count, there are at least five announced Marvel movies where Hawkeye could next rear his head. Keep reading for which appearance we think is the likeliest.
Tony Stark has had numerous run-ins with S.H.I.E.L.D. over the years, but by all accounts, he'll be stepping away from the Helicarrier for his third solo "Iron Man" film. Given Hawkeye's status as an operative for the shadowy government organization, it's not likely that he'll pop up in Tony's next adventure; besides, that's Black Widow's cameo turf.
Don't forget that Hawkeye made his first Marvel movie appearance in "Thor," when he was charged with keeping the thunder god in his crosshairs. It was a cleverly used opportunity to tease Barton ahead of "Avengers," but the two characters never really connected in the Marvel superhero flick. I wouldn't expect to see him land in the "Thor" sequel, then, especially considering its rumored far-space setting.
It's already known that Cap's next movie will heavily feature S.H.I.E.L.D., making this the likeliest next sighting for Renner's sharpshooter. Falcon is getting in on the action, and it's widely believed that Black Widow, at least, will have a part to play in the film, too. Will Hawkeye join in as yet another member of Cap's support squad? I'm not wholly convinced with Falcon already involved, having Hawkeye might be overstuffing things, but honestly, I'd rather see him here than in another "Avengers" movie.
Straight up no chance, unless it's part of a stinger leading towards "Avengers 2."
Back to that "Avengers" dis I made a second ago. I love Hawkeye and think Renner did an admirable job with a character who might otherwise seem unimpressive with his bow, standing next to almost literal gods. But one of the beauties of "Avengers" is that the roster can be shaken up to include new, different heroes. I think Hawkeye has had his moment to shine alongside Earth's mightiest. Time for him to step aside and let some other folks, like Black Panther or Ms. Marvel, make their debut. That all said, even though I don't want him to be in the "Avengers" sequel, Hawkeye will almost certainly be there. Here's hoping there's still room for some others.
