'Spider-Man' Celebrates Fourth Of July With 'Amazing' Box Office Results

by Meg Malone

Yesterday was certainly a holiday worth celebrating for those involved with "The Amazing Spider-Man."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest superhero flick netted the second-highest gross ever for July 4, making $23.4 million on the day and bringing the two-day box office total to $59.3 million. The only film to ever have a better Independence Day showing? "Transformers," which back in 2007 made $29.1 million on July 4.

Considering the two-day numbers, THR writes that Marc Webb’s film, which to produce cost $220 million, is currently on-track to make a six-day box-office total of between $125 million and $140 million.

We’ll continue to keep our eyes on the numbers throughout the weekend to see what the Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone picture ends up totaling.

Earlier this week MTV News spoke with box office experts to get a sense of Spidey's money-making potential. It certainly looks like he's living up to the hype!
