'Avengers' Parties Down With New Short Film 'Item 47'

It looks like we're getting that "Avengers" sequel sooner than we thought — even if Earth's mightiest heroes themselves won't be getting in on the fun!

Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive details on "Item 47," Marvel Studios' latest One-Shot short featured on the upcoming "Avengers" Blu-ray (in stores on September 25) and premiering during a special screening at Comic-Con.

Taking place directly after the Joss Whedon superhero flick, "Item 47" features "Party Down" star Lizzy Caplan and "Flags of our Father" actor Jesse Bradford as Claire and Benny, described as "a down on their luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to 'The Avengers' – and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions."

"The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy," Marvel Studios co-president and "Item 47" director Louis D’Esposito told EW about the plot. "So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved."

Tasked with tracking down Benny and Claire are two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, played by Marvel veteran Maximiliano Hernández and "Lost" star Titus Welliver.

At 12 minutes in length, "Item 47" is the longest short in the One-Shot series so far, "and could be a first step toward using short-subject films to dive deeper into the Marvel universe and introduce beloved but less-familiar superheroes to the mainstream," according to EW. The report states that Marvel execs are already devising scripts for companion pieces to "Iron Man 3," "Thor 2" and "Captain America 2," and that the shorts "could be a good test for Black Panther or Iron Fist or Wasp, for example." Color us intrigued.
