Spider-Man Hits New York For Week-Long Celebration

There’s barely more than a week left until “The Amazing Spider-Man” hits theaters, and we’re at the point where we don’t know what to do to contain our excitement.

Fortunately Sony Pictures has a good itinerary for us, especially if you live in the New York City area. Dubbing next week “Spider-Man Week,” the studio has put together seven days of events around the city that coincide with the fact that the movie’s release is a week away.

The celebration overlaps with National Volunteer Day on June 26, and in an effort to encourage action in their fans, the cast of “The Amazing Spider-Man” will be volunteering around New York’s five boroughs that very day. The day will be called “Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer.” Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary and the rest of the cast of the film will kick off the event on Monday night by lighting up the Empire State Building in red and blue. There also will be a Spider-Man event at Forbidden Planet Monday night.

There’s plenty of other fun activities going on during the rest of the week in the city, too. On Wednesday, Spider-Man will swing in and deliver the first spider to the Natural History museum’s “SPIDERS ALIVE!” exhibit. On Saturday kids can attend a sci-tech workshop on Spider-Man’s animations at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab. And that’s not even mentioning the events that are going on all week long, like special Madame Tussauds, On Location Tours and Children’s Museum activities.

“NYC Service is very excited to be partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment and the cast of ’The Amazing Spider-Man’ in a national day of service that calls on all New Yorkers to volunteer and give back to their community,” Diahann Billings-Burford, Chief Service Officer for NYC Service, said in a press release. “There will be projects occurring throughout all five boroughs, ranging from beautifying community gardens to CPR trainings. Join us, ‘Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer!’”

“The Amazing Spider-Man” hits theaters on July 3.
