As if Marvel Studios didn't have enough on its plate already, the ambitious production company plans on churning out a fourth as-of-yet-unknown movie after the completion of "Iron Man 3," "Thor 2," and "Captain America 2," in that order. Well, rumor has it that this fourth superhero flick will revolve around none other than Africa's own T'Challa a.k.a. The Black Panther.
Hailing from the fictional African nation of Wakanda, the Black Panther is arguably one of Marvel's most formidable non-American superheroes. As Chieftain of the Wakandan Panther Clan, T'Challa is gifted with superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and agility, as well as a direct mental link to the Wakandan Panther god.
In addition to his superhuman traits, T'Challa is also an expert hunter, strategist, politician, inventor and scientist, with a Ph.D in physics from Oxford University. Clearly, it'll take some big feet to fill the shoes of the Black Panther. Here's a list of actors who fit the bill perfectly.
With a background in shows like "Lost" and "Oz," Adewale certainly knows how to play a powerful yet threatening leader. On "Lost" his character Mr. Eko was the leader of a gang of guerillas, not unlike the Wakandan Panther Clan, and on "Oz" his character Adebisi was the leader of the black gang of inmates. See the connection here?
This "Attack the Block" star proved to us last year that he's got what it takes to lead an attack. Taking on a slew of silhouetted dog aliens almost single-handedly, John Boyega should have no trouble fitting in on the Wakandan plains. Unfortunately for us, Wakandan slang isn't nearly as catchy as British slang. Innit, bruv?
Michael Jai White
If there's an ass that needs kicking, Michael Jai White is the man for the job. Best known for his roles in both "Black Dynamite" and "Spawn," he has proved time and again that his mastery of martial arts is on par with that of the Wakandan Chieftain. Just think about how much ass he could kick if he became one with the Panther god!
Michael B. Jordan
Coming from critically-acclaimed shows like "The Wire" and "Friday Night Lights," Michael B. Jordan is certainly a force to be reckoned with. His knack for the dramatic is only surpassed by his knack for playing likeable characters. Plus, his latest stint as Steve Montgomery in "Chronicle" gives him ample experience in the superhero department!
Is there anything that Denzel can't do? No, there is not. This Academy Award-winning actor has been praised for his portrayal of such famous historical figures as Malcolm X, Herman Boone, and Frank Lucas. Just think about what he could bring to the table for T'Challa! If Marvel was able to turn Edward Norton, a two-time Oscar nominee, into the Incredible Hulk, then there shouldn't be any problem with getting Denzel Washington to play the Black Panther. Get on it, Hollywood!
