It's been a pretty eventful past few weeks for Mads Mikkelsen. Not only was the Danish actor cast as Hannibal Lector in the upcoming Hannibal TV series but he also has signed on to play one of the main villains in "Thor 2." Which shouldn't be much of a stretch for Mikkelsen, considering that he's already played the antagonist in films like "Casino Royale" and has experience in Norse mythology thanks to his role as One Eye in "Valhalla Rising."
Not much else is known about "Thor 2," other than the fact that it starts shooting this summer. Although rumor has it that Enchantress will also be appearing in the film, there are still no clues as to who Mikkelsen may be playing. And that's where we come in. Here's our list of potential Thor villains for Mads Mikkelsen!
Born in Jotunheim, Skurge is a great warrior who gained the name "Executioner" after valiantly battling in the war against the Storm Giants. However, his adoration for the Enchantress consistently leads him down the path of evil. The Executioner seems like the most likely choice for Mikkelsen at this point being as we already know Enchantress will be featured in the film.
Based on the fire giant Surtr of Norse mythology, Surtur is an immensely powerful demon who dwells on the extradimensional plane of Muspelheim. Utilizing his god-like powers of apocalyptic proportions, Surtur wields the Sword of Doom which enables him to shatter dimensional barriers and disrupt the all-powerful Odinforce. He also has the ability to turn his fingers into serpents with a single thought.
Carl Creel was your average boxer turned criminal until he drank a magical potion that Loki laced with rare Asgardian ingredients. Now he has the ability to absorb the properties of any material he touches. Be it a gas, a solid, a liquid, or even certain forms of energy, the Absorbing Man can duplicate it all. He can even absorb the superhuman properties of Asgardians, which makes him one of Thor's greatest opponents.
As a result of being driven underground by Odin and his fellow Asgardians, Ulik and his Rock Troll brethren share an innate hatred for any and all surface dwellers. On several occasions Ulik has been tasked with stealing Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, and just being a general nuisance to the God of Thunder. He's even gone so far as to replace him as Thunder God, under the name Tanarus, after receiving a glamor charm from the Norn Queen, Karnilla.
A monster spawned from the hatred of a billion beings that have been killed by the Norse Gods, Mangog is one of Asgard's most dangerous adversaries. He possesses strength, endurance, and durability that far surpasses that of Thor or any Asgardian for that matter. In fact, Mangog is basically immortal due to the fact that he is a being comprised of pure, limitless hatred.
